B&R Kennels Frequently Asked Questions
What is your minimum age for boarding a dog?
At B&R Kennels, our primary concern is always the health and safety of our four legged guests! For this reason, our minimum boarding age is four months old. This is because it is recommended by veterinarians that puppies get their first round of “adult vaccines” at 12 weeks old, including rabies and distemper, then a second round at 16 weeks. If you need to board a pet that is younger than four months, B&R Kennels can recommend a veterinarians office until they have reached our minimum age requirement!
Why does my dog smell when I pick him up after being boarded?
B&R Kennels prides ourselves on our very meticulous cleaning and sanitizing procedures. We use veterinarian grade disinfectants to keep our kennels clean and safe! But of course, in our kennel runs or while playing outside during playtimes, a dogs natural odor may become more apparent! We totally understand that some clients may be more sensitive to this! B&R Kennels always recommends that clients add a bath to their itinerary before taking their furry friend home! Our bathing prices vary on the size of the pet, head over to our bathing and grooming page for more information!
I'm boarding my pet for the first time? What should I expect?
We are all pet lovers here at B&R Kennels and want you know that we understand that it can be stressful when you leave your pet for any period of time. But we assure you, your pet will definitely adjust to our friendly staff and our daily routines. Cleaning, feeding, playtimes bathing and grooming are all done on a scheduled routine and monitored by our kennel staff.
There are a few things that you can do you help your pet get ready for their vacation with us! First, we recommend that you establish a meal time schedule of twice a day. B&R Kennels feed once in the morning and again in the late afternoon. Also, we we will start “quiet time” after closing hours, this is to be sure pets get adequate rest! To help them adjust to this, we recommend a week prior to boarding that your pets begin a “wind down” period around 8pm. This will help them adjust to the kennel schedule once they are with us!
Can all my pets stay together in the same kennel run?
Yes! B&R Kennels will always advise pet owners to board any siblings in a kennel run together, as long as temperament and behavior works! Being around a friendly and familiar face will definitely help your pets feel much more comfortable while they are staying with us! B&R Kennels does however recommend that no more than two dogs room together. While our kennel runs are certainly spacious; just like people it can be tough living in closed quarters with another pet. So, we do not recommend more than two dogs in a run.
It cost $42.00 a day to board two pets in one run, however, if the B&R Kennels staff notices any aggression or fights between pets, we reserve the right to separate them. In the event of this, the client will have to pay boarding fees for separate runs ($25.00 a day), starting the day they are separated.
Do you require a deposit in advance of a boarding visit?
At this point in time, B&R Kennels does not require deposits for boarding.
What is your cancellation policy?
B&R Kennels requests that cancellations be made 7 days prior to arrival date. Since so many of our clients rely on us to provide advance, verified reservations before they can finalize their family vacation or business travel plans, we must ensure that every reservation we accept is “real”, and highly likely to occur. It would be unfortunate to have to upset a clients vacation plans because of lack of available space, and then come to find that we could have accommodated them all along, because of late cancellations.
While my dog is boarding with you, will he be taken out for walks?
Your pet gets 1 walk included in your daily rate. B&R Kennels offers a few different playtime or additional walk options for your pet! Playtime can be an incredible part of your pets stay with us. B&R Kennels has over ten separate fenced in areas, guaranteeing a great time for your pet! Playtime is always supervised by a staff member. We always recommend adding a few extra playtimes to your pets stay. It is a great way for your pet to get out of the kennel and stretch their legs! We request that you bring your food in individual container that are pre-measured. This assures that your pet will be receiving the same amount of food in boarding as they would at home. However, if you would like to use our house food just let us know when making your reservation! B&R Kennels uses a grade a grain free chicken and rice based diet!
What vaccinations are required to board my dog?
We require your dog to be vaccinated against rabies, parvo/distemper and bordetella (kennel cough). We strongly recommend that your dog be vaccinated against bordetella at least 2 weeks prior to boarding, so that the vaccination has time to take effect before entering the kennel. If your dog is approaching the expiration date for the bordetella vaccine, we will ask that you sign our bordetella waiver. We also recommend that you talk to your veterinarian about vaccination against a recent canine influenza, H3N8, but the vaccine is not required for boarding or grooming. B&R Kennels reserves the right to refuse any client without the vaccines or if the vaccine expires during their stay. While B&R Kennels does their due diligence to check with your pets veterinarian prior to the pets stay in boarding, it is the clients responsibility to bring an updated shot record upon arrival.
